After completing the renovation of his home in Umina Beach NSW, the time came for James to embark on the next instalment of his reno journey - adding a granny flat to the property.
With over 30 years of experience in the home build and design industry and having worked with thousands of clients, this granny flat project was a challenge for James as he put in his decades of experience into building a 60 square meter home.
"The vision was for a self-contained, fully independent two-bedroom house that could allow friends or paying guests to stay, with as many comforts and practical solutions as I could fit in", James said.
Considering the area of the block, James designed a home that gives a nod to the coastal location, with spaces for entertaining guests and a backyard space for kids to enjoy.
Home Exterior
James wanted to create a granny flat that's visually interesting and functional at the same time. By combining different materials and textures and complementing everything with colour, he made a facade that stands out and a sure head-turner.
James opted for a coastal colour scheme for this granny flat. Blending perfectly well with the colours of his roof and cladding is Taubmans Akimbo. By painting his barge boards and screening wall in Akimbo, he was able to tie in all the other elements together and resemble the colours of the sea.
As someone who loves to make a statement on a front door, James chose a coral colour, Taubmans Foxy Lady, for an added punch of colour to his exterior. Please note if sourcing this colour for your exterior ensure the ‘exterior’ formula is chosen when getting your paint tinted!
Home Interior
The combination of different textures and colours continues in the interior. Keeping the coastal theme all throughout this granny flat, James carefully selected materials that are in the different shades of blue, white, grey and brown colours.
Tying everything together is Taubmans Crisp White - our most popular white - completing the coastal theme of this granny flat.
