PREPARATION IS KEY

Before painting it is crucial to ensure your surface is clean and free of dust and grime. Here are some key steps to remember when preparing your exterior.

  • Use a broom or pressure washer to reach hard to reach places and to get rid of cobwebs, dust and grime
  • Lay down drop cloths to areas where you will be painting
  • Use painters tape on and around fixtures to protect them from potential paint splatter
  • If your surface is previously painted remove this layer of paint using a paint scrapper
  • Fill and prime any large holes or surface defects.
  • Treat any mould with bleach (diluted with water by 50%) then rinse with clean water

STEP 3: GET PAINTING

As a general rule start at the top and finish at the bottom. Always follow the back of the paint can for painting instructions.

  • If painting gutters or eaves, using a brush paint these areas first.
  • Continue by painting your walls. Cut in with a cutting in brush to frame the area you are going to paint.
  • Then proceed to coat your roller in paint and start filling in the frame you cut in by going up and down in an 'M' motion
  • Once complete, using a brush paint your trims, windows and door. Note that if possible, removing the door of the hinges and laying the unpainted side upright will making painting easier.

And that's it! Step back and enjoy your homes' new appealing look.
