Supporting a small township affected by bushfires
Cobargo is a small township located between the mountains and the sea on the far south coast of NSW. The town was affected by the late 2019 early 2020 bushfires. It was a traumatic and challenging time for the community, with families displaced and the local public spaces and surrounding vegetation devastated by the disaster.
Community members like Tania, Jess and the local publican Bron – all channelled their energy into helping and working on supporting the town not only as they were going through the disaster. With Jess making a refuge at the local showgrounds, and Bron supporting The Cobargo Green Recovery Group consists of dedicated group of local community members who have a vision to rebuild not only communal town spaces, but also lift the spirits for the town so they have some optimism and hope in the future.
Funds donated via GIVIT and Taubmans are going into the work for their beloved skate park. Including added a basketball court for the local youth to enjoy. They are also working on improving the skate park facilities.
The Cobargo Green Recovery ground continue to be active in working on local projects. With goals to also work on town entrances, local vegetation, public spaces, the showgrounds and local signage. They are also working on local youth initiatives.
